Description

VicHealth and the Municipal Association of Victoria are pleased to invite you to our forum, Leading and embracing diversity: Strategies to reduce race-based discrimination.

The health impacts of race-based discrimination include increased risk of psychological distress and mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. Race-based discrimination is also linked to smoking, obesity, alcohol and substance abuse, and cardiovascular disease. At a community level race-based discrimination and intolerance can lead to tension and conflict and undermine business confidence.

Many organisations have contributed to building knowledge and practice in this area. This forum will profile these organisations, new evidence and promising strategies which are focused on supporting cultural diversity and reducing race-based discrimination in arts, sports, workplace, training and local government settings.

VicHealth will be releasing two publications at this forum:

  • Findings from the 2013 Victorians’ Attitudes to Race and Cultural Diversity Survey
  • Localities Embracing and Accepting Diversity (LEAD) Program Summary Report

This forum provides an excellent opportunity to expand our networks and build our understanding of practical approaches to reduce race-based discrimination.

Please note - Photography and/or filming will take place at this event for use in VicHealth publications and promotions including online/social channels.
